St Kitts Citizenship by Investment

st kitts citizenship by investment

St Kitts and Nevis has run a citizenship by investment program since 1984, longer than any other country. It is still the most recognized Caribbean passport by processing volume, and what it grants is full citizenship: a passport, not a residence card and not a visa.

As of September 2026 the headline route is the Sustainable Island State Contribution, a flat $250,000 that covers a single applicant or a family of up to four. That number sits above the $200,000 regional floor set by the March 2024 Caribbean-wide Memorandum of Agreement, which every established Caribbean program had to meet from 1 July 2024. Below we set out the full price table, how the process runs, and who this program actually suits.

What this citizenship grants in 2026

St Kitts and Nevis citizenship is full citizenship, passed on to children born afterward under normal citizenship rules. There is no minimum stay requirement, before or after approval.

The main route is the Sustainable Island State Contribution (SISC), the successor to the older Sustainable Growth Fund. It is a non-refundable payment to the government, priced at a flat $250,000 that covers a single applicant or a family of up to four, rather than using a lower single-applicant tier the way Dominica's program does. Additional dependents cost more: $25,000 for each one under 18, and $50,000 for each one aged 18 or over.

On the passport itself: the Henley Passport Index, January 2026 edition, ranks St Kitts and Nevis around 19th globally, with roughly 150 to 157 destinations visa-free or visa-on-arrival depending on the tracker used. That includes the Schengen Area for 90 days in every 180, the UK, and Russia.

Investment options

Three routes sit under the St Kitts program. The real estate option is the least clear of the three: our research confirmed the SISC figures directly against the official CIU site, but could not independently confirm current real estate minimums or hold periods, which several industry sources describe as having moved since the 2024 price floor. Treat any real estate number quoted elsewhere as provisional until a licensed agent confirms it.

How the process actually runs

St Kitts and Nevis law requires every application to be submitted through a government-authorized agent. Gold Visa World is an advisory desk: we structure the application, gather documentation, and coordinate with licensed agent partners who are the agents of record. We are not ourselves the government-licensed agent, and nothing on this page should be read as a claim otherwise.

The CIU publishes its own timeline: approval in principle within 120 to 180 days of a complete application being acknowledged. That clock starts only once the file is complete, so the real driver of speed is how quickly clean documentation comes together, not the government's stated window.

The main applicant faces a mandatory interview, virtual or in person, conducted by an independent firm on the CIU's behalf. Dependents aged 16 or over may also be interviewed. April 2026 added a mandatory biometric enrollment step as part of a genuine-link requirement, which applies both to new applicants and, retroactively, to people who already hold St Kitts citizenship from this program.

Due diligence is real, not a formality, and refusals happen. Applications stall most often over messy source-of-funds documentation or an undisclosed prior visa refusal, from the US, UK, Canada, Schengen states, or St Kitts itself. Our own due diligence guide covers exactly why files get turned down; our own role is making sure the funds trail is documented before the file goes in, not after a case officer asks a second time.

Who this fits, and where the pressure is coming from

St Kitts suits applicants who want the fastest, most established Caribbean option, with the fewest program-specific quirks of the four we cover. It is a reasonable default when a client has no particular reason to prefer Grenada's US E-2 treaty angle or Antigua's University of West Indies Fund. St Kitts and Dominica are the two programs most commonly chosen by Nigerian applicants, largely on cost and processing-speed grounds, and it is also a clean match for Bangladeshi applicants, whose own approved dual-citizenship list already covers all four Caribbean programs here.

It fits less well for anyone unable to sit for the mandatory interview, or unwilling to complete the 2026 biometric enrollment. Afghanistan, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Yemen and Somalia nationals are generally excluded; some compliance trackers describe a conditional path for applicants who have lived outside those countries for ten years or more, while others describe the exclusion as having no exceptions. That inconsistency means we confirm your position per case with a licensed agent, rather than assuming either version is correct.

There is also a live regulatory question worth stating plainly. In October 2025 the European Parliament voted 518 to 96 to tighten the mechanism that lets the EU suspend Schengen visa-free access over a country's citizenship by investment program. In June 2026 the European Commission wrote to St Kitts and Nevis and four other Caribbean governments asking them to phase out CBI by 1 June 2028 and tighten due diligence by September 2026. As of this writing St Kitts remains visa-exempt for Schengen, no suspension has been imposed, and the Commission's next review is due in December 2026. We tell clients this as an open situation, not a settled one either way.

Family and the real cost beyond $250,000

$250,000 buys the SISC contribution for a single applicant or a family of up to four. On top of that, due diligence fees run $10,000 for the main applicant and $7,500 for each dependent aged 16 or over. Larger families pay more again: $25,000 per additional dependent under 18, $50,000 per additional dependent aged 18 or over.

None of this includes legal or agent fees, which vary by advisor and sit on top. Caribbean fee schedules move; we confirm the current schedule with the licensed agent before quoting a client a final number, and recommend treating any figure on this page, or anywhere else, the same way until it is confirmed for your own case.

Frequently asked questions

How much does St Kitts and Nevis citizenship cost in 2026?

The core cost is the $250,000 Sustainable Island State Contribution, which covers a single applicant or a family of up to four. Add due diligence fees of $10,000 for the main applicant plus $7,500 per dependent aged 16 or over, and larger families pay more per additional dependent. Legal and agent fees sit on top and vary by advisor.

How long does the St Kitts citizenship process take?

The CIU's own published timeline is approval in principle within 120 to 180 days of a complete application being acknowledged. That clock starts only once the file is complete, so clean source-of-funds documentation gathered upfront is usually what determines real-world speed.

Can I apply for St Kitts citizenship directly?

No. St Kitts and Nevis law requires every application to go through a government-authorized agent. Gold Visa World works as an advisory desk, structuring the application and coordinating with licensed agent partners; we are not the licensed agent of record ourselves.

Does the 2026 biometric requirement affect people who already have St Kitts citizenship?

Yes. The biometric enrollment introduced in April 2026 as part of the genuine-link requirement applies to new applicants and, retroactively, to people who acquired citizenship through the program previously. Confirm the current process with a licensed agent if this affects an existing case.
