Second Passport for Bangladeshis
Bangladesh ranked 97th of roughly 199 passports on the Henley Passport Index's January 2026 edition, with visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to about 34 destinations. That is the main reason a second passport keeps coming up in Bangladeshi family conversations: business travel, children's university choices and a plan B all point the same direction.
The good news is a genuine one, not marketing language. All four Caribbean programs on this site sit on Bangladesh's own approved dual-citizenship list, which is not true for several other nationalities we cover. Why this is a clean fit
Bangladesh expanded its approved dual-citizenship country list from 57 to 101 countries in a February 2023 cabinet decision, adding 12 Caribbean nations. Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada and St Kitts and Nevis, the four Caribbean programs on this site, are reported on that expanded list, alongside the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, St Lucia and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
In practice, dual citizens still benefit from applying for a Dual Nationality Certificate from Bangladeshi authorities to formalise use of the foreign passport, even though enforcement against those who skip the step is limited. Unlike India, China or Indonesia, covered elsewhere on this site, there is no legal citizenship conflict to navigate here, only an administrative step worth doing properly.

Eligibility fine print
None of the four Caribbean programs currently ban Bangladeshi applicants on nationality grounds. What actually decides a file is more mundane, and worth confirming per case.
- Reconfirm the current dual-citizenship list status directly before finalising a plan. Government notifications are occasionally revised, and this research reflects the February 2023 expansion as most recently documented.
- A Dual Nationality Certificate from Bangladeshi authorities is not strictly required, but it is worth obtaining to formalise use of the foreign document once you have it.
- Expect standard due diligence, not enhanced scrutiny by default: banking references and a clear paper trail for the investment funds are the baseline every program asks for.
- Bangladesh Bank foreign exchange regulations and remittance approval should be planned with your bank ahead of any funding deadline, particularly at the $200,000-plus level.
- A Caribbean passport does not by itself change Bangladeshi tax residency; that is a separate determination.
- All four Caribbean governments here received a European Commission letter in June 2026 asking them to phase out citizenship by investment by 2028. All remain Schengen visa-free as of this writing.
